[The cover story looks back on the Pitak Siam protest on November 24, 2012 and explains: Ruled by the Constitutional Court that the protest was not illegal and reassured by the protest’s leaders that it would proceed peacefully, the government, somehow, announced the Internal Security Act to control the protest, and then mobilizing around 50,000 fully armed police officers to control the protest. Outside of Bangkok, the government ordered governors of every province, local police officers and local administrative officers to try to stop people from coming in to join the protest. Reports of abuses against protesters flowed in all night from every route leading to Bangkok before the November protest day. Nearly 20 cans of teargas were thrown into the protesters in just one day and the government defended its acts as peaceful ones.]
