Five Years Ago: Red Shirt Protests – March 1-31, 2010

It was five years ago this month that the second Red Shirt siege of Bangkok was revving up. The first indication, as always, was that Shinawatra family members were fleeing the country to wait out the protests while shopping in London.
Meanwhile, Red Shirt leaders claimed a people’s force was rebelling against the military and dared the state to act against them. However, instead of the pure revolution for Thaksin’s sake that the 2009 protests called for, in 2010 they called for democracy and new elections.
