On the metal stake: National strategy

[This refers to Thailand’s 20-Year National Strategy launched by the junta. It is intended to keep elected governments from turning to populist schemes to reward their supports like political parties directed by Thaksin did.
The cartoon shows the junta’s plans as stopping progress for the country. Is there any other reference or allusion in the cartoon?]

According to 20-Year National Strategy by Junta, the main focus is Isan region due to the following facts
    1. Isan region has one third of land mass and one third of population – However, this region can generate ONLY 10% of GDP which is unacceptable due to poor quality soil and sorry state of irrigation system which make those people suffer from both drought and flood within the same year – causing those Isan people to be trapped in the vicious cycle of abject poverty. Therefore, they can be lulled by those demagogues and corrupt politicians to joint the secession movements if those politicians cannot get what they want.

    2. most of economic rely on agriculture and basic industries of agricultural product processing. Cannot be fully made better value added

    3. Worse is relatively poor transportation despite of widespread networks of national highways and the main railway lines that pass major towns and reach the borders have made the access for border trades as well as the tourist places have made them not realize the full economic potentials

Therefore, the new development to secure the sustainable prosperity of Isan region has become necessary including
    1. more and better irrigation system
    2. more intercity motorways to Bang pa in – Khorat and Khorat – Khonkaen
    3. 6 massive double tracking + new line from Ban Phai to nakhon Phanom and Ubon to Mukdahan
    4. High speed train to Khorat and Nong Khai
    5. major renovation of Udonthani Airport, Khon kaen airport, buriram airport, Ubon Ratchathani airport, Roy Ed airport and buriram airport
6 CIQ at the first Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai, Second Friendship bridge in Mukdahan, Third Friendship bridge in Nakhon Phanom
    7. the 5th Friendship bridge in buengkarn to carry rice and para rubber to feed Chinese markets and fruit to feed northern region of Vietnam
    8. Food valley in Khorat for comprehensive food processing – better rice, from Thung Kula, better beef from Phone Yang Kham of Sakhon nakhon and better diary from Pak Chong ranches and better silk products with the innovation from Southern Isan region
    9. Reinvigorating both SME and OTOP

For the satirical remark by Arun, 20-Year National Strategy by Junta is the repeat of Isan developments during the day of Strongman Sarit which paved the way for Khon Kaen University (opened in 1965) and development of Khorat, Khon Kaeng, Udonthani, Nakhon Phanom and Ubon Ratchathani during the day of GIs along with the networks of national highways in Isan started with Friendship Highway (First phase done in 1957 and completed in 1965), Highway 304 from Khorat to Kabin Buri via Pak Thongchai, Highway 12 that link Phitsanuloke with Mukdahan via Phetchabun and Khon Kaen and Phitsanuloke with Mae Sod via Tak and Sukhothai and so on.
