Speaking about that, I notice that obnoxious advertising videos à la BTS have now also invaded the MRT platforms and carriages......Makes me wanna puke.
(Oh yeah, but the platform screens now show the time left until the arrival of the next train - guess that's called progress.)
On the other hand, still not a single shop on the "commercial level" of most stations almost 7 years after the subway opening........ What the hell?

The platform screens went operational about mid last year and for many months were on a 'testing' phase with the constant running of the then new TAT ad. Often that meant listening to the TAT ad many times while waiting and also blaring out of sequence from both sides of the platforms!
Thankfully, the test phase finished a couple of months ago and the programming is now more diverse (I think the BMCL even registered a name of the 'station'.....BMTV, BKK Metro TV or something). The time of the next arrival on the screen is great but there really should be a screen at each station ticket barrier entrance for the few who will actually walk to the platform a bit quicker to make an impending arriving train. This is also my pet peeve with the BTS and Airport Link - more so with the later given the lower frequency of service.
The TVs they have been gradually installed in carriages in the last 4-5 months but for a long time were just showing vision without sound. Unfortunately, sound has been activated in the last 6 weeks or so!![]()

Remember the fears prior to the subway opening about it not being able to cope with Bangkok's floods? Looks like the engineers did their homework after all.

MRT stations has been designed to handle the flood at 2.7 meter level. However, if the frood has reached MRT stations more than 40 cm, some stations on hte flooded area will be closed even though the Subway service will be continued.

Now, MRTA has to close Phaholyothin station due to the rising Flood at Lad Phrao Intersection
However, MRTA denying such incident but they still keep watching the flood situation near Phaholyothin station and Ratchasaphisek station

I transferred last night from MRT Chatuchack station to the BTS station via a 40m long, 50cm wide, elevated wooden bridge which was also being used as a bus stop. The water is around 40-50cm deep. I'll try to take a pic tomorrow.
Normal service at BTS/MRT, The Nation November 9, 2011 4:08 am
The skytrain and subway have maintained normal services on Wednesday, despite higher water levels in several areas which significantly reduces the number of commuters.
Anat Arbhabhirama, an advisor to the board of Bangkok Mass Transit System which operates the skytrain, said that the number of daily commuters sharply plunges from 500,000 to 100,000.
He noted that the skytrain service would be disrupted when water level in Mo Chit, where the main operating system is located, is as high as 1.65 metre. At present, it is only 50cm.
Meanwhile, Ronachit Yaemsa-ard, acting governor of Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand - the operator of the MRT subway, said that normal services are maintained at all 18 stations. Water level at four stations - Chatuchak, Phaholyothin, Lat Phrao and Ratchadapisek - is under close watch. The subway now accommodates about 160,000 commuters daily.

Smart move on the part of the Fortune Tower owners as that underground connection is already getting a lot of through traffic between Fortune and Central Rama 9.
Esplanade Ratachada should get onto building their connection from the basement floor into the station. Terminal 21 missed an opportunity there but in future years it may be necessary.
