    Paknam Railway Monument

An artists impression of how the Paknam Railway Monument will look. This commemorates the first railway in Thailand.

Satellite map shows the location of the monument in front of Wiboonsri Market and Samut Prakan Pier. The station was located at the market.

(4th November 2009): Clearing the area to make way for the monument.

(3rd January 2010): Working on the concrete base.

(5th February 2010): The framework of the monument is now up and you can see the outline of the steam train chimney in the center.

It is expected to be finished by the end of this month. I will post some more pictures at www.paknamphotos.com.

Another deadline has passed an no sign of finishing. But, there is progress with the monument. You can now more clearly see the outline for the chimney of the steam train. They are now saying it will be finished at the end of March. We will be there for the opening ceremony and will share photos with you. In related news, no sign of them starting the 90 meter high Paknam Tower which was supposed to begin last month.

Photo album showing the building of the monument is at www.paknamphotos.com
