The readers' comments are far more interesting than the article itself:

    Discussion 1 : 04/08/2010 at 05:12 PM1

What a humungous waste of money that could be better used to bring improved education, drinkable water, electricity and communications services to rural communities, all to satisfy the grandiose delusions of self-importance of a bunch of dysfunctional politicians. Ah, but the construction jobs will keep rural people at the level of unskilled labourers, and ensure huge profits for the politicians' friends and already rich families who own the construction companies and banks that finance them. Many, many countries have parliaments with facilities way, way below the existing Thai parliament complex.
    Discussion 2 : 04/08/2010 at 07:55 PM2

They build this at just 40 km from the PRESENT coast line? With two floors underground?

Have the architects taken the rising sea level into consideration? Doubt it. Why don't they start thinking - before they start sinking - about creating a new capital, like Nigeria and Brazil have done. Yes, I admit, it may be too late. Another dubious aspect is the assumed time-line. I have witnessed the snail speed progress of the construction of a four floor provincial court building. It took more than 3 years (> 1,000 days) to complete. Needless to say that if there was a budget, which in the case of the parliament seems to be missing (more than 10 billion suggests that there is no budget) can never be maintained.
    Discussion 3 : 04/08/2010 at 09:15 PM3

let's break ground and get rolling

bangkok and thailand deserve this !
[^The joke here is that the writer used the name "Albert Speer", so it's meant to be taken as cynicism......]

    Discussion 4 : 05/08/2010 at 08:24 AM4

The comedy keeps coming. Thailand is the land of image over substance. Appearances are far more valued than capabilities as the article proudly States,” the parliament's grandeur would be the pride of Thailand, visible to people from all over the world”, in reference to the new parliaments BIG BUILDING. The grandeur would be the pride of Thailand? What Thailand needs cannot be built from iron, cement and brick. The people who will gather within these new walls need to rebuild their thinking, moral being and responsibility to the kingdom, Thai people and the future of the country instead of their greedy self-centered selves and how they look to people from all over the world. But this is so typical, instead of politicians selflessly doing something for the country they think of themselves. It’s just like little children playing dress-up and make-believe. It is truly amazing Thailand that still amazes as lessons are never learned and applied in politics.

The bidding for the consultants and contractors to construct the new National Assembly in Kiakkai delayed - has to pospone to mid-late 2011 since the TOR drafting process need a revision sicn the old draft have disqualify virtually all contractors and consultants from bidding.

Further delay due to soem civil disobedientto defy the eviction orders algon with the change of the way to cross Chao Phraya from the bridge which will steal the scene to the tunnel with cost 3 times compared to the bridge.

If BMA insisiting to construct the bridge b- the new bridge must be moved to either Bang Pho [Blue ring subway] or Kiaw Khai Ka

Sudden changes of buidign regulations ruin real estate business

Now, Prueksa real estate getting the real headaches because just a few month afer closign the deal of 1047 units of the new condo project aroudn Kikkai in Nov 2010 whcih is now pending for EIA, the new buildign regulation from Mahatthai just become effective on 29 Jan 2011 - a day after publication in Royal Garzetts, forcing Prueksa to refund 45 million Baht of deposit + 0.625 % interests (300000 Baht) due to the sudden change of the building regulation to much more stringent measure .. Even this measure hurt the feelign of the consumers ...

Now the condo have be redesigned from 32-34 floor (1000 units) with the price of 1600 million Baht to 5-8 floor buildings with the price tag of 600 million Baht and give the odl customers the firwst priority to make a reservation first - losting 1000 Million Baht of revenue wasting 10 million Baht of marketing
