A friend of mine came up on the train from the south and said this works is quite impressive. Sadly he had no camera.

Which is good for the SRT & the contractor has they had not a snow flakes chance in Bkk of meeting the original deadline of Jan 2012. Even without the flooding, early 2013 looked accurate leaving aside the issues of no Bang Sue station and electrification uncertainty.

The increased delays due to the floods may actually be a blessing for this line as it may get gauge change and electrification decided upon before the line opens than sometime later.....

Unsurprisingly all work halted on the red line. For those areas not affected directly by flooding the main problem is the combination of an inability to source materials (sand, cement etc) and workers being affected by flooding.

The SRT stated on 2 November that work at the end of September was at 83% completion, http://www.railway.co.th/resultproje...edline=5409201

SRT accused of negligence, BKK Post 14/02/2012
A company contracted to build the Bang Sue-Taling Chan elevated railway line on Tuesday filed a petition with the Department of Special Investigation asking it to probe the role of the State Railway of Thailand for allegedly preventing it from working.

Sooksan Nuntakul, a representative for Chun Wo Construction & Engineering, submitted a letter to DSI chief Tharit Pengdit accusing the SRT of refusing to investigate the company's joint venture partner, Unique Engineering and Construction Plc, for allegedly violating their partnership agreement.

Chun Wo and Unique were awarded an 8.7 billion-baht contract by the SRT for the civil engineering work on the 15-km mass transit line under the name ``Unique-Chun Wo Joint Venture" in 2008. The company was supposed to take charge of the project's railway systems engineering. However, after the joint venture signed a contract with the SRT, Unique gave authority to A.S. Associated Engineering (1964) Co to do the work instead.

Chun Wo lodged complaints with Supoj Saplom, the then-permanent secretary for transport, several times but received no response. It said the SRT refrained from performing its official duty by letting a third party outside the contract oversee the project and that it may cause loss and damage. The DSI will look into the company's complaint, Mr Tharit said.

SRT is going to run the red line commuter from Bang Son to Talingchan as the test run for a month until the ramp to connect the elevated track and existing track is done.

After the ramp is done, the terminal for outbound train to Talingchan will be at Bangsue 2 while the inbound train from Talingchan will stop at Bangsue 1 which is just 200 meter South of Bangsue 2.

This train will run at 20 minute interval with 2 sets of Sprinter DMUs

Nevertheless, I think this DMU should also run to either Thonburi or Salaya in complement with Siriraj (Thonburi) - Salaya shuttle trains ... but the greatest wish of all is the massive electrification to Thonburi and Salaya - after the red line commuter has been fully electrified - and may need to have the new power plants to ensure that their will be no brownout while running the EMUs.

Okay, missed this. Are they co-sited or different ends of the same platform run?

Bangsue 2 is on the different platform - about 400 meter from Bangsue 1 which is central platform

I had been of the understanding that the whole of the Red Line is being built to allow for gauge conversion at a later date. However, this section of line on a low viaduct shows that it has not been built to allow for easy conversion to standard gauge.

For the matter relating to the High Speed down South, I don't think that they will have to reguage that double track section for red lien commuter - since the HARD lesson from the flood of 2011 dictate that the high speed down South must be elevated at 7-12 meter high from the ground
