A significant flaws in the design or systems? More likely, it is a logic flaw that put Airport City line into heavy uses as a substitute to Red line commuter which Airport Link is not supposed to be in that heavy use ...
In January 2012, Airport Link City Line has passed 400,000 km landmark, so the 1,000,000 km landmark in 2014 is not considered as a surprise at all.
Now, spare part problem, especially the case of heavily consumed carbon contacts which has been run out within a weak instead of 6-8 months, have been solved ...
SRT also want to invest on 5 sets of four-car formation rolling stocks with the price tag of 3.2 billion Baht and it takes 2 years to deliver .. However, the Public Debt office telling SRT to accept 4 billion Baht more debt even after receiving the 7.035 billion Baht debt from the company which run Airport Link with contract ...
Monthly revenue of Airport Link is 47.8 million Baht - 41 million Baht from City Line and 7.7 million Baht for Express line.
BTW, SRT is going to invest 17 million Baht so Airprort Express from Phayathai can make a stop at Makkasan central.

khun Wisaruth-again krap khun for your info-seems that it has not reached any of the usual tourist info sites like Tripadvsior.etc.
The BKKPost of 14/2 had (I guess the same article as Posttoday in Thai) on the big plans of the SRT-ET to buy more trains, boost the frequency and add connecting buses to many tourist places. That 556 bus is a disgrace-if it runs at all-as you may well wait over 1 hr for one to turn up and noone knows about it. But they have now extended it at the west end to Wat Ray King-so the obvious and tourist-aiming SaiThai is not to be found no more clearl;y. And-even though the BMTA made english langauge signs for the old route-they have not yet found someone to do it for the new route-so leaving even potential bususers in the blank. But rhe 556 FROm Makkasan is also a giant time-eater-it turns onto Ram IX for some 3 kms before it can turn back-then joins in the jams at Asoke-and the further ones to cross Pratunam.

No wonder, Big Chad has come up with the idea of feeder vans to Makkasan central as the way to bring those foreign tourists at Khoo San road to Makkasan Central.
around Khao sarn there are scores of minibuses-ev. hour=pick you up at the placeyoustay, to airpt for 100 bt. That makes even the cityline plus a taxi cost more.
Makkasan is simply not fit at all-due to its location at Asoke- for any transport toward Pratunam and beyond. Cost hours extra time. Onward to RamIX and then DinDeang can do.
Kasikorn bank - I think- now has a promotion for their newly opened exchange booth at ARL=lowest level. If you change money there (do not know if have minimum) they give you a free ARL-express ticket. I assume it is for same day travel from airport only, but unsure about this. This is an example to be followed up on! King Power f.e.-the heavy advertiser and its dutyfree complek beside the Phiyathai stop.
heere is a promotion in question from K-Bank - from 15 Feb to 15 April 2012.
Condition: Making an exchange at least 25000 Baht per transaction for one city line free ticket and Making an exchange at least 50000 Baht per transaction for one free express line ticket and the maximum number is 4 free tickets.
Furthermore, the golf cart service to carry the luggage at Makkasan Center has been offered from 7 AM to 8 PM since 8 Feb 2012

This was a major design flaw in the line. Even though the original concept did not envisage have Express Trains continue to Phaya Thai the lines should have been configured at the eastern end to allow interchange in the event of an emergency.
The sooner the two lines are linked, and thus Express trains originating at Phaya Thai can stop st Makkasan, the sooner the crazy two destination Express services can be integrated into one running at 15-20 min intervals

TYhey better hurry up since Airport Link is going to be the backbone of high Speed Train system!
In fact this applies to ANY money-change at ANY K-bank in this time-untill 15/4. You only have to show that slip to the ticketcounter for that ticket. it is not clear if it all has to be on 1 slip -but I guess probably yes (50k THB is about 1250 eur-more as most people would change in 1 time).Originally Posted by Wisarut
Air Asia now also has another promotion-10 bt tickets if you show your boarding pass (I think same day only-unclear how this would work toward airport).

The crisis of running out of spare parts is back again: 3 sets out of 9 sets are broken (2 City Lines and 1 Express) - the broken ball bearing at the bogie wheels and the broken disk brakeand no spare parts in the store .... Need to get spare parts by the next 60 days.

Much discussion in the thai langauge press in recent days regarding management, organisational and staffing problems with the ARL and the need to look at restructuring. No doubt an attempt to privatise what will be a cashcow in the future (remember BJT & King Power previous plans though not politically a goer under the PT) but there are also real problems within the SRT and the SRT-ET subsidiary.
Airport Link may see new share structure as Don Mueang made No 2 facility, Nalin Viboonchart, The Nation May 3, 2012
The government is considering adjusting the shareholding structure of the Airport Rail Link by inviting the private sector and Airports of Thailand (AOT) to hold stakes in the project so as to smooth the policy to use Don Mueang as Bangkok's second airport, said Virabongsa Ramakura, chairman of the Strategic Committee for Reconstruction and Future Development.
Virabongsa said during a keynote speech titled "The Strategy of Thailand after 2015" during a seminar held by the Federation of Thai Industries that congestion at Suvarnabhumi Airport was very serious. Annual passenger numbers are as high as 48 million, so the government cannot avoid using Don Mueang Airport as the capital's second aviation facility.
However, he said problems related to the Airport Rail Link might be an obstacle to providing efficient transport between Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang. The service is a state enterprise under the State Railway of Thailand, so its management may not be flexible. "The government therefore is thinking of adjusting the shareholding structure of the Airport Rail Link. AOT and private firms may be the new shareholders. If we can do this, we will extend the route from Phaya Thai to Don Mueang Airport. Construction may take three years," he said.
Virabongsa added that Thai AirAsia, the country's largest budget airline, had been asked to move its operations from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang. It is likely to accept the idea, but is asking for the firm commitment of the government not to change its airport policy in the future. The government may have to offer incentives to these budget airlines. He said that if the government can use Don Mueang as the second Bangkok airport officially, it expected 12 million passengers to move to that facility annually, easing the congestion at Suvarnabhumi.

Siemens has diagnosed the cause of axle worn out premature is due to the fact that it has been broken right from the assembly line. Now, the worn out axles have been sent to the facility in China to check if they can be repaired or otherwise.
