Suthep Thuagsuban: Come out in big numbers, brothers and sisters… topple this government, and then let us form the next government… so that Ai Hoy devour important ministries… and we will charge you with terrorist allegations… while I’ll continue to devour palm oil.
Caption: Listen carefully to Thuag’s whistle blowing to call for a mob
[“Blowing a whistle” is a Thai expression to indicate when a powerful person gives a signal to create a mob to accomplish a political task by force. Thai “big men” have often bragged that they have the power to blow a whistle and cause chaos.
Suthep Thuagsuban was deputy prime minister in Abhisit Vejjajiva’s government from December 2008 to May 2011. While in the cabinet, he was accused of speculating in palm oil pricing. “Ai Hoy” refers to Newin Chidchob, former leader of the Phumjai Thai Party which was one of the coalition parties in the Abhisit’s government.
The cartoon, from the Manager group, one of the most prominent Thaksin foes, also broke with their former Democrat allies during the Democrat Party’s time in government from 2008-2011. The cartoon ridicules the Democrat’s assertions that they are a more fit government than one run by Thaksin.]
