Covering up rumors, politician style…
Left: Rumors said chicken has bird flu. Eat some chicken!
[Reference is to the presence of bird flu in Thailand in 2004 which was denied by then PM Thaksin. He ate chicken on TV to back up the idea that chicken was still safe to eat.]
Middle left: Rumors said the mortgaged rice is rotten. Eat some rice!
[Reference is to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra eating rice to refute rumors that the government cannot sell mortgaged rice because it is rotting in warehouses.]
Middle right: Rumors said the sea water was contaminated with poisonous substances. Eat some crab meat!
[Reference is to natural Resources and Environment Minister Dr. Pradit Sinthawanarong who ate crab meat to refute reports that marine life off Rayong Province was contaminated by an oil spill early this month.]
Right: Rumors said the parliament is “shoeful” [meaning full of MPs who engage in shameful behavior]. Sniff a shoe!
[This refers to an incident when a Pheu Thai MP, Sgt. Prasit Chaisrisa, took off his shoe in parliament and displayed it to opposition MPs during the parliament debate on August 7. Displaying the a shoe or the bottom of a shoe to someone is an insult and this incident was widely reported in the press as yet another example of low-brow behavior by MPs.]
