[‘Big Father Jiew’ is Gen. Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, former prime minister. In the cartoon he waits to be invited to serve on the government’s reform council to solve the country’s political situation.

Chavalit is ridiculed as a clown in the cartoon as he has repeatedly put himself in embarrassing and humiliating situations by seeming to support Thaksin and then quickly reversing himself.

For instance, supporting and then withdrawing support for a reconciliation report on the same day, and vowing to lead a Red Shirt “People’s Army” before denying he would. This seeming desire to be in the thick of politics while continually retreating has sapped much of his potency as a political old hand.]
